Welcome to Kayaking.org, a website made by kayakers for kayakers. This site was originally launched as a blog about kayaking back in 2009. After that we focused on booking kayak tours through the end of last year when we realized that we created a service that wasn’t in high demand. Hey, it happens, the important thing is to know when it happens and shift your course. So we went to our users and asked what their biggest problem was shopping for kayaks and kayaking gear online, the answer was – curation.

In the age of mega-sites like Amazon.com looking for something like a kayak or a paddle usually means sifting through hundreds of products. There is little filtering done as the goal is to provide you with as many options as possible. What our users told us is that they didn’t want a million different options, instead they wanted real kayakers just like them, to pick the products they knew and loved.

So in 2012 we began working on a new version of the site, rethinking the design from the ground up. With a change in focus comes a new way of looking at the site and how we organize the data on the site. Our blog has become quite popular so providing easy access to these posts was critical. With the new store we also wanted a way to highlight some of our coolest products. We know our visitors like good quality gear but don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for it, as curators we have worked hard to bring you good deals on otherwise very pricey gear.
