‘Everest of sea kayaking’ mission succeeds

Successfully crossing the “Everest of sea kayaking” was an experience that New Plymouth man Adam Millen will not forget.

The 23-year-old has kayaked across Bass Strait, between Victoria and Tasmania, with a group of four others to raise money for Destiny Rescue, an organisation that rescues children from slavery in brothels and red light districts. (Read More)

Two missing women camping on Dodd island near Ucluelet found safe

Two young women were found safe and well Saturday after spending the night lost in bad weather on a tiny island in Barkley Sound, near Ucluelet.

The pair were among nine members of the University of Victoria Outdoors Club on a kayaking and hiking trip through the Broken Group Islands. (Read More)

You should leave the best till last, so the saying goes. Well leaving Abaco as the last port of call in my Bahamian Odyssey was certainly a good move. Apart from being very friendly, this is an island that has many things to offer. Not only is it, in the main, undeveloped and as nature intended but it also has many bars, restaurants and attractions that can keep one entertained. Time running short for kayak expedition

A couple who dreams of launching a kayak expedition from the Bitterroot Valley to the shores of the Pacific have raised nearly $2, 000 for the trip. But that still leaves them roughly $6,500 short of their goal.

Charlie Capp and Lorie Hoffman are hoping to raise enough money to kayak 1,100 miles down the Bitterroot River to the Clark Fork and the Columbia rivers to meet the Pacific in Astoria, Oregon. The trip would fulfill a life-long dream for Capp, who used to look at the river running past his family’s farm in Stevensville and imagine where the water led. (Read More)
